I think I agree with what you and others have mentioned. While I agree that Matt made some good points about doing it to support the site and not to play in an arcade I can see how it comes accross like that.
I've taken away the play limit however the post limit of 50 will stay.
The dedicated server is $230 a month though and you'd be surprised just how little money is made off of advertisements.
The only reason why I ever set up the premium membership program was for people that wanted to support the site AND had $10 to toss in from their paypal account. If you don't want to pay that's perfectly fine. It was never my intention for it to come accross like this so that is why I've removed the play limit.

i never wanted to come across as and ass, and even before i heard about the arcade i was planning on getting a premium membership for the sole reason that i love this forum. and i understand it cost you a lot of money. i just feel like there are some people on this site that are chasing away new members and while i was thinking about that i read this thread so i vented. off topic, some of these people that never post about halo, and only flame and try to piss off the mlg players have to go. its rediculous. i have done way too much flamming myself as of late. mainly to counter the other flamers. im 24 years old and am mature enough to realized that i am not helping the community either. so im going to try to stop flamming, but i think in order for this site to progress instead of regress some of these people either need to be talked to or banned.

Lose money.
If you take all the website I run and put them all together it's pretty much even, but most of the money that I use to pay the hosting bill comes from my lessons.
The larger any of the sites I run get the easier it might be to get into more "top tier" advertising programs at which point I would be doing a lot more giving away of money made via contests etc. But at this point it'd have to receive about 10 times the amount of traffic that it currently gets (which is near impossible lol...) to get into those programs.
The reason why people might think that this website makes a lot of money is because they see the advertisements and figure they must pay alot. But advertisers don't pay very much at all for video game based key words.
Anyway... enough about the money. I started this site because I love Halo and I felt we could offer something different than other halo communities do.
lol to CT Shoon about the highscores thing hah hah
