well, what else can bungie do, they created the game of the century, they can't beat halo or make anything bigger, so i say wake mater chief the **** up, he's got more nubblettes to BXR , honestly i think it would be better than them making a stupid *** game and people losing all respect for them...

On the other hand, keeping him alive means that when they release Halo Wars their fans won't be depressed at the very sight of a Spartan.

I read somewhere that the planet that he's hurdling towards in Legendary Mode's extra five seconds is Onyx from the Halo novel "Ghosts of Onyx" (which wouldn't really make much sense since "Ghosts of Onyx"'s setting is right after Halo 2)

Myself, I completed the game on Normal, then, curious about the alternate ending, replayed the final level (named "Halo") with two friends on Legendary.
At first you're like "Where's my extra scene?" then- right after the post-credits sequence ends, the new scene starts..
(one day I'll finish the entire game on Legendary- probably not anytime soon since the Multiplayer is so addictive)

With a movie in the works, and Halo Wars already in the later stages of development, Bungie is far from finished with the Halo franchise; but firing the ring (Halo itself) in the third installment of the series (thus destroying Halo, as it was unprepared to fire; the catalyst for the conflagration that led to the only "boss battle" on the final level) was arguably, an even bigger move than if they HAD killed the Master Chief- maybe I should rephrase- I could see Halo without the Master Chief- but Halo without the Halo?

It also led to our discovery that Johnson... has no nose hairs... err, I mean, he dies and gives you a Spartan Laser to destroy the aforementioned "final boss" (but he does have two immaculately clean-shaven nostrils)

Agreed, your research in this matter makes complete sense and I cannot find much flaw, I read only a tiny bit on onyx but if MC does land there it would make little sense

Since when the novel takes place the entire planet is covered with covenet and had surviving spartans, it is unaware if these Covenent would be friend or foe (Heretics)

It is possible MC could be attacked by these people, saved by them, or perhaps be found dead

now I agreed with this until I watched the extra scene today(didn't wait through the credits last time I played it on legendary), and I judging by the "music" selection at the end Bungie definitely doesn't want to completely shrug off the thought of a fourth one. I mean, come on, you don't put them sort of violins at the end of a game when you've got no intentions of continuing it.

Then again they're probably just effing with us all

but damn I get sad every time I watch that freakin ending!

The ending of Halo 3 makes u think of the beginning of an earlier bungie game.

What if the arbiter gets posessed, and a new battle begins?

LOL, that idea is really out there and random, but who knows?
