More people are playing H3 then h1, yet H1 still has gigantic tournaments in TN, OK and other places.
A big number of people does not mean that they will be competing in tournaments. WoW will only have 30 teams, 30x3 =90. If only 90 people can compete, then I really dont think it matters that 8 million people have lost their life to this game. On top of that I dont think that many 14 year old kids parents are going to let them go play WoW at a tourney, its not like this is an established thing like FPS games were for competitive leagues.
Honestly I would be very tempted to quit Halo for AoE though
